Around The Blogosphere - Holiday Activities

I came across a great little site that will be full of oodles of activities to get you in the holiday spirit.  Heather created this site for the holiday season based on our 50 Days of Summer Fun.  How fantastic is that?  Check out what Heather is coming up with this week, and check back each week for a new batch of activities!  She’s quite crafty, too, so be ready to have some creative fun!

Birthday Mementos

With each year that passes, I stand in awe at all that my boys accomplish.  I guess what they say is true - time flies when you’re having fun!  At each birthday, though, I want to stop time, take a moment and relish the experience of my child right then, right there.  While that isn’t possible, it is quite easy to “freeze frame” the memory into something tangible.

Supplementing Your Child’s Education

Bells are ringing across the country, in classes (and homes) as children make their way back to school for another year.  As a parent, I want to give my child the best possible chance at a successful school year.  Being actively involved in my child’s experiences at school by volunteering and assisting, as well as being a physical presence around the school, are great ways to take an active role in my son’s education.  I also like to find things to supplement classroom learning and bring it home as well.

Why WonderBrains Is Here…

Besides being an awesome place to find cool and unique products for ever-growing minds, WonderBrains has embraced a learning philosophy unlike most others.  Products at WonderBrains are centered around an educational idea called Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences.  Peter, one of the co-creators of WonderBrains, has a wonderful article on the site that explains in depth what Gardner’s theory is all about.

I recently attended a teacher training session specifically geared to enlightening early childhood teachers in this theory.  While most of us associate intelligence with either verbal, mathematical or logical astuteness, there are other categories to consider.  While many of these are difficult, if not impossible to measure in the “standard” sense, they are valid areas of intelligence.  Read through a few of these, and see if you can identify any of these areas in your child or even yourself.
