Core Science MS-1
Physical & Life Science for Middle School
Core Science MS-1 is a supplemental science curriculum for students entering grades 5 through 8. By performing the experiments in this kit and completing exercises in the accompanying workbook, students will lay the groundwork for success in natural science courses in school. The content is correlated to the National Science Education Standards for middle school level physical and life science. The hands-on experiments enliven the learning process, adding powerful firsthand experiences to their science education. This is an effective way to not only teach important scientific concepts and knowledge, but also to foster an inquisitive attitude and a deep interest in the exploration of the world through science. Students will also gain familiarity with commonly used science terms, methods, and tools, preparing them for future studies.
In the kit, there are 45 topics with three experiments each: an easy introductory experiment, a more involved experiment, and a challenging experiment for more advanced students. In this way, the students are both encouraged and challenged. Some of the experiment topics include mass and volume, length and area, heat and temperature, the human body, chemical reactions, soil analysis, plants and seeds, the properties of water, light and lenses, refraction and reflection, pressure, flight, the phases of matter, density, buoyancy, force and motion, important properties of various chemicals, acids and bases, indicators, animal observations, optics, filtration, weather, rockets, electricity, batteries, circuits, and magnetism.
The full-color, 96-page experiment manual provides illustrated instructions and explanations, and the black-and-white, 48-page workbook guides students through each experiment and allows them to record their findings.

Dinosaurs and Fossils
Long before history was ever recorded, fascinating creatures swam in oceans, soared through skies, and roamed across terrains very different from those of Earth today.
Humans have never laid eyes on these creatures, so how do we know about them? How did they come to be, and why are they not around today? What was Earth like millions and even billions of years ago?
From the first microscopic single-celled organisms to the largest whales alive today, life has been emerging, flourishing, and dying out on Earth for nearly four billion years. Discover how fossils are the keys to unlocking our understanding of prehistoric life.
Learn about many species of dinosaurs and pterosaurs, some of the most prolific and impressive creatures to ever exist on Earth. Find out how fossils form, make models of your own, and examine a real fossil. Delve into the geologic ages of Earth and uncover the creatures that defined them.
