Mini Chimalong
The Mini Chimalong from Woodstock Percussion is a smaller version of the Chimalong Jr, and comes with a full color spiral-bound songbook attached. Like its larger cousin, this little metallophone helps children learn to identify colors, numbers and musical notes. It is a great tool for inspiring creativity and musical appreciation.
Setting up the Mini Chimalong is quick and easy, just unfold and rest it on a flat surface like an easel. To play a melody from the songbook, simply match the colors below each note on the page with the color beneath the corresponding tube. Older children can use the same system with tube numbers.
The lyrics are printed on both sides of the easel so while one child plays the song everyone else can join in singing. Since the tubes may shift over time, users must occasionally center each tube in its foam holder to ensure the proper sound. Hitting the tube at its center point will give the best sound.

Extension Activities
- Ask the child to choose an instrument, identify its name and try playing it. Ask the child to describe the sound the instrument makes. Repeat the activity with each instrument.
- Ask the child to close his/her eyes while you play one of the instruments. Ask the child to identify the instrument.
- Tap out a rhythmic pattern on a hard surface. Ask the child to repeat the pattern using one or both castanets. Repeat the pattern using different instruments.
- Listen to various recorded pieces of music. Ask the child to identify any instrument he/she recognizes in the recordings.

About Diatonic Harmonicas
The reeds of Diatonic Harmonicas produce the notes of the scale to which they are tuned. For example, a diatonic harmonica tuned to the key of C would produce the natural notes of the C scale without sharps and flats (picture the white keys on a piano, without the black keys). Each hole has two reeds; one plays when breath is exhaled (blow) and the other when inhaled (draw). The individual reeds are each tuned to play a different note on the scale.

Information on Playing the PennyWhistle
The Clarke Tinwhistle, like other tinwhistles, has its own unique fingering. It should not be confused with the fingering of a recorder.
When covering a hole the pads of the fingers should be used, not the tips. (The pad is the area about midway between the tip and the first joint.) The fingers should be held flat. Do not arch or curve them. Do not allow air to escape from under the fingers as that will cause squeaks, poor pitch and tone.
