Shape sorters are good for developing those beginning math skills, but their uses are often very limited and lose their appeal after a child has mastered shapes. Not so with this sorter which encourages pretend play with the birds. In this way, a child does not only match shapes, but the play will probably go beyond with scenarios that may go something like this :
"Hey square Birdie! Wanna come Play?"
"Sure Round-O, come in my square home with me."
"Can I come too?"
"I don't know if you'll fit Mr. Triangle Birdie!"
this is just a theoretical example, but this type of play is sure to develop among children who have reached that stage of development where they enjoy playing pretend.
