Once children reach the pre-teen, or adolescent, stage, they are fairly independent in their thinking and their tastes. Children of this age are still very active and enjoy sports of all kinds. They become quite interested in knowing more about other people, personal histories and family background. They also start to take a more outward look at the world around them and show compassion more readily, wanting to be involved in humanitarian and volunteer activities.
Many children at this age are able to use higher-order thinking skills, such as evaluation and analogy. Find toys and
products that encourage them to tap into those different areas of learning and expand their own thinking and point of view.

Expression through the written word is a key factor to development at the adolescent level. They are writing notes to friends,
writing in the classroom, and hopefully finding time to write for themselves outside of everything else. Provide these children with tools and products that interest them.
